This is another great Easter share I have received this week. This one came through Pando and I have no idea of the original source. I have uploaded it to a zip file for your convenience.
Can you tell I am an art collector and particularly enjoy others creations. Some are useful to enlarge for color/cut activities for my grandchildren. Or they like to make invitations, notepads or whatever their creativity comes up with for the day.
This file has about 250 Easter pictures and you can pick it up HERE.

The Search for Truth: Bermuda Triangle

1:48 PM Posted In , Edit This 0 Comments »

Imaginary lines drawn between Miami, Bermuda and Peurto Rico make up the borders of the mysterious Bermuda Triangle.
(ABCNEWS )

Hundreds of Lives Have Been Lost in the Mysterious Area of the Atlantic

(I found this article very interesting. When I was a teenage many years ago one of my best friends Father was a pilot. He disappeared while flying a private flight to the Bahamas through the Bermuda Triangle. Seven years later he was declared officially deceased. It is a very sad memory as I think of my friend so I know flights have been lost through this zone.)

It's one of the world's most enduring mysteries that has lasted for the last three centuries and been charged with the disappearance of more than 2,000 sea vessels and 200 airplanes.

The Bermuda Triangle, which spans from Bermuda to Puerto Rico and over to the Miami-Fort Lauderdale coast, comprises half a million square miles of infamous seas.

Inquisitive minds have questioned whether the supernatural or actual science is to blame for all the area's mysteries. The subject has sparked books, articles and Web sites.

Legend has it that explorer Christopher Columbus was the first to report strange happenings in the area in 1492. According to ship's logs, Columbus said the compasses could not maintain a constant bearing, and that the North Star appeared to move.

Since then, thousands have reported eerie incidents around the Bermuda Triangle, including one last December when a twin-engine plane with 12 people vanished on its way to Mayaguana Island in the Bahamas.

One of the region's most perplexing incidents happened just off the U.S. coast and sparked and enduring legend. In 1945, five torpedo bombers took off into the skies from the U.S. Naval air station in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on a routine training mission that became the now infamous "Flight 19."

"Five avenger bombers who left Lauderdale on Dec. 5, 1945 -- leave in the late afternoon and they are never heard of again," said meteorologist Dave Pares. Rough weather, compasses spun uncontrollably by an unknown force and a disoriented flight leader helped seal the aircrafts' fates. The fleet disappeared without a trace.

Like all the other mysterious vanishing acts in the Bermuda Triangle, Flight 19 sparked debate among people who tried to determine what had occurred.

"I believe all of these incidents have scientific explanations," said Hans Graber, of the Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. He believes rogue waves are to blame.

Rough Weather Could Contribute to Mystery

Rogue waves are a massive pile up of ocean swells that can stand five times the size of regular waves and take shape fast, with little warning to victims.

The Bermuda Triangle is home to some of the roughest weather at sea, and Graber said one rogue wave could submerge ships and planes entirely.

"The Bermuda Triangle, simply by its geographic locations, with the gulfstream, with the island of Bermuda itself, is prone to where you can have rogue waves occur," he said,

While Graber looks to the waves to explain the triangle's mysteries, Bruce Gernon, author of "The Fog: A Never Before Published Theory of the Bermuda Triangle Phenomenon," thinks there's something else at work.

In his book, he details an experience he said he had while flying off the Florida coast in 1970, when he claims he flew into an "electronic fog" and time traveled.

"Some of the instruments were malfunctioning. The wet compass was spinning slowly, counter-clockwise all by itself. The electronic navigational instruments were all malfunctioning," Gernon said. "And at the same time, I traveled 30 minutes through time."

Gernon said what pulled him into the fog was the same force that's swallowed others into the Bermuda Triangle's black hole, and he thinks he was just lucky to get out.

David Parest, a professor of meteorology of the University of Nebraska who has studied Gernon's experience and other incidents in the Bermuda Triangle, said similar conditions were at work in all of the cases, and ultimately, it is the weather that is to blame.

"The cases I have analyzed, over 87 percent of these missing aircraft all have the same identical weather conditions," Parest said.

So, is it science or the supernatural at work? We may never know.

Here's a cute Spring Alpha

I rec'd this adorable alpha in an email today. You can get it HERE
It is a great spring theme alpha. I am working on tracking down who created it as I'd love to receive more of their creations as well as give credit here. If you know where the creator posts their works please leave a comment and I'll post the information so others can find them.

I am an avid alpha collector. So many I will never use them all but I do so enjoy receiving others artistic shares.

Most files I post will be zip or rar files and you can get a free program for unzipping them from doing a web search. Something like winzip has a limited time usage and will give you a good start on the kind of little program you would need.

Easter Eggs

Easter Egg Traditions
In our family we all gather together for Church services and a huge Easter lunch. Afterwards we(all the Moms) sneak out and hide boiled, decorated, "Easter" eggs throughout the grasses and shrubs. The children then come out with their Easter baskets and begin hunting for easter eggs. It is a mad dash for fun and some of the eggs are hollow, colored, plastic eggs filled with delicious chocolate candies. The children are of course most excited about the chocolates. The hard boiled eggs collected are usually used to make egg sandwiches or in potato salad during the week. Of course you can also remove the shell and eat them with salt and pepper. This is a small look into my world on Easter Sunday. It is a day of worship, family and family activities.

"Christians adopted the egg as an Easter symbol because of the relationship between Easter and the renewal of life.

Exchanging and eating Easter eggs is a popular custom in many countries. In most cases, chicken eggs are used. The eggs are hard-boiled and dyed in various colors and patterns. Many countries have their own traditional patterns. Probably the most famous Easter eggs are those designed in Ukraine and Poland, where Christians decorate the eggs with complicated red, black, and white patterns.

In many countries, children hunt for Easter eggs hidden about the home. Children in the United Kingdom, Germany, and some other countries play a game in which eggs are rolled against one another or down a hill. The egg that stays uncracked the longest wins. Since 1878, children in Washington, D.C. have been invited to roll eggs on the White House lawn.

No Bounds To Creativity

No bounds to creativity

By MARY NADEAU Observer-Dispatch (Sept 2008)

Creativity. Quality. Family.

These three things are important to Bob Mortis.

As director of performing arts for Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, Mortis deals in creative endeavors daily.

“I’m passionate about the arts because creativity is involved,” he said. “Everything you do can be creative. No matter what path you choose to follow in life, cultural events can provide nourishment for the creative spirit.

“Arts are for everybody, of course. From pre-historic cave drawings to Greek tragedies to the latest blockbuster, we express ourselves through the arts,” he said. “They’re a universal language that speaks to the soul. They have a unifying effect, where people can find common ground.”

What’s the most important thing Mortis looks for when he books shows?
“Quality! Also, if I can bring in something new, I will – if it’s quality.”

Mortis attributes his professional success, including higher attendance at area arts events, to making the right choices and learning from the process.

“When I follow my instincts and follow my heart, I make the best choices,” he said.
Mortis made an important life choice while he was doing the show “Is There Life After High School?” for Spring Farm CARES.

“It’s an ensemble show of different scenes and songs ... I met my wife there.”
Which brings us to family, the most important thing to Mortis.

“After I met my wife six years ago, from that point forward, my life changed for the better,” he said. “Brooke is my best friend, my most ardent supporter, and soon, she’ll be a wonderful mother. We’re expecting twin boys in January.”

Smiles for Pets

11:12 AM Posted In , , Edit This 0 Comments »
I was watching the news this morning and of course they have two adorable pets available for adoption. This morning they were featuring two cute dogs and they mentioned the website. So I ran and got a pen and jotted down this rescue site. http://www.petrescuebyjudy.com/ Many of the animals stay in rescue homes so they receive the care that will make them good pets.

And then in an email came a fun site to go visit called "Smiles" which is pictures of cats and dogs with smiles set to music. So for a few smiles for you I have posted this site too.
http://www.imtiredonline.com/smile/

And finally you are all probably familar with the Pets Smart site and the click to feed button. For each click a donation is given to help feed the homeless animals so please do Click To Feed.
And on to my final pet post of the day.
This is a great story from Deerfield News.

Whitesboro teen’s sewing makes for comfortable cats

She crafts 109 beds for donation to shelter

A Deerfield teenager with a passion for animals recently helped make pets awaiting adoption a little more comfortable.

Summer Naughton, a 13-year-old eighth grader at Whitesboro Middle School, used about four months of allowance money to buy $350 worth of supplies to make beds for the cats at the Stevens-Swan Humane Society.

“I love animals,” she said. “I wanted to do something.”

Summer, who owns four cats, five dogs, a guinea pig, two birds and two snakes, said she had made beds for her own animals and then decided the cats at the shelter would like them, too.

Summer said she saw the cats’ cages on the humane society’s Web site and noticed how uncomfortable they looked, so she decided to make the beds.

She wrote down the names of the cats and information about them in order to get to know them, said Jerry Kraus, public relations and marketing director for Stevens-Swan.

Summer then asked her mother for an advance on her allowance to buy fabric and material to make the beds.

Summer started working on the beds on a Friday afternoon about two weeks ago after finishing her homework at school during the day. She then worked almost non-stop the whole weekend to sew the beds on her own sewing machine before stuffing them.

In three days, she made 109 beds, she said.

“I had to make her go to bed,” her mother, Ellen Naughton said.

Kraus said the Naughtons delivered the beds in 10 huge bags, and he walked them through the shelter so Summer could see the cats.

“It was pretty cool,” she said. “I finally got to meet who I was making the beds for.”

Summer said she hopes her efforts serve as an example for others.

“Maybe other people will help out,” she said. “It’s really important that the animals get homes.”

Kraus said Summer’s efforts, along with those of many area children and teens who have donated to the shelter, are appreciated.

“It’s a wonderful sight for us to see these children coming in,” he said. “It says a lot about the children and also their parents.”

Augie, a 2 year-old Swiss mountin dog ate his owner's money. From FoxNews.com

11:32 AM Posted In , , Edit This 0 Comments »

The family dog in one household in North Carolina may have been feeling the stress of the economic slump when he ate his owner's money.

Augie, a 2-year-old greater Swiss mountain dog, consumed the $400 that Kelley Davis earned working overtime as a physical therapist.

Davis, 42, of Apex, N.C., said she'd planned to deposit the money a week ago, but it wasn't in her pocket when she went to retrieve it.

Instead, Augie "deposited" the cash in a different way over the next few days, she told FOX News on Friday. She thinks he's done, she said.

Davis said when she took Augie for a walk last Saturday, she found parts of three $100 bills and five $20s in his excrement.

She washed them with a garden hose and is hoping to exchange them for intact, non-digested cash.

A professor at the North Carolina State University Veterinary School said the money shouldn't hurt the animal.

Meet Kingsford, the little pig that could. When I drive from the airport back home there is a little black piggie baby like this that has gotten out of his pen. Everyone slows down to watch as he is about 25 feet from the road and is looking for some fresh food goodies. Apparently he may need a cat like Kingsford has to teach him the tricks. I hope you enjoy this as much I have enjoyed watching it.

Today's topic is gardening. Can you use reclaimed water on your gardens?

10:31 AM Posted In Edit This 0 Comments »

Spring is here and planting the vegetable/fruit garden but conserving water are issues that go hand in hand. So can you use reclaimed water on your gardens?

A. Here’s the answer from the Rockledge Wastewater Department:
1. Irrigation of edible crops that will be peeled, skinned, cooked or thermally processed before consumption is allowed. Direct contact of the reclaimed water with such edible crops is allowed.
2. Irrigation of tobacco or citrus is allowed. Direct contact of the reclaimed water with tobacco or citrus is allowed, including citrus used for fresh table fruit, processing into concentrate, or other purposes.
3. Irrigation of edible crops that will not be peeled, skinned, cooked, or thermally processed before consumption is allowed if an indirect application method that will preclude direct contact with the reclaimed water (such as ridge and furrow irrigation, drip irrigation, or a subsurface distribution system) is used.
4. Irrigation of edible crops that will not be peeled, skinned, cooked or thermally processed before consumption using an application method that allows for direct contact of the reclaimed water on the crop is prohibited.

Retiring shuttle may doom 38,200 Space Coast jobs

While I hear of industry after industry laying off I sure am not hearing it on the National news. Not to the degree it is affecting people in my family. From the oil fields in the West to the coast of the East, family members are losing their jobs. We hear more about "arm workouts" than the distress citizens are feeling about their job situation or that of family and friends.

Pay attention people. Your world is changing and Washington is running fast from one project to another so it will change while you watch with apathy and barely notice.

Now I'll go find another fun goodie treasure to brighten my day as I sit here unemployed.

Martha Stewart Mac and Cheese

5:04 PM Posted In Edit This 0 Comments »

Macaroni and Cheese 101

- serves 12 -
Adapted from The Martha Stewart Living Cookbook: The Original Classics.

Ingredients

8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, plus more for casserole
6 slices white bread, crusts removed, torn into 1/4- to l/2-inch pieces
5 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons coarse salt, plus more for water
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
4 1/2 cups (about 18 ounces) grated sharp white cheddar cheese
2 cups (about 8 ounces) grated Gruyère or 1 1/4 cups (about 5 ounces) grated Pecorino Romano cheese
1 pound elbow macaroni

Procedure

1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Butter a 3-quart casserole dish; set aside. Place the bread in a medium bowl. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons butter. Pour the melted butter into the bowl with the bread, and toss. Set the breadcrumbs aside.

2. Warm the milk in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Melt the remaining 6 tablespoons butter in a high-sided skillet over medium heat. When the butter bubbles, add the flour. Cook, stirring, 1 minute.

3. While whisking, slowly pour in the hot milk a little at a time to keep mixture smooth. Continue cooking, whisking constantly, until the mixture bubbles and becomes thick, 8 to 12 minutes.

4. Remove the pan from the heat. Stir in salt, nutmeg, black pepper, cayenne pepper, 3 cups cheddar cheese, and 1 1/2 cups Gruyère (or 1 cup Pecorino Romano); set the cheese sauce aside.

5. Cover a large pot of salted water, and bring to a boil. Cook the macaroni until the outside of pasta is cooked and the inside is underdone, 2 to 3 minutes. Transfer the macaroni to a colander, rinse under cold running water, and drain well. Stir the macaroni into the reserved cheese sauce.

6. Pour the mixture into the prepared dish. Sprinkle the remaining 1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup Gruyère (or 1/4 cup Pecorino Romano), and the breadcrumbs over the top. Bake until golden brown, about 30 minutes. Transfer the dish to a wire rack for 5 minutes; serve.

Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookies

Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ed’s post last week got me thinking about how hard it is to find a really great chocolate chip cookie; the issue is that no one cookie can be the chocolate chip cookie for all people. Some prefer crisp cookies, while others insist on gooey, doughy ones. These cookies tread the happy middle ground between the two.

This is one of the great urban myth recipes—supposedly, years ago, a woman dining at Neiman Marcus asked for their cookie recipe, was told it would cost $2.50, and was later shocked to find a $250 charge on her credit card. For revenge, she shared the recipe with as many people as possible. Even if the story is a fabrication, the cookies are great, and the addition of ground oats adds to their wholesome appeal. This version is from Nancy Baggett’s The All-American Cookie Book.

Recipe

2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips, or 12 ounces top-quality bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, chopped into small chunks
3-1/2 to 4 ounces top-quality milk chocolate, finely chopped or coarsely grated
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans, toasted (optional)

Directions

Heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line several baking sheets with parchment paper or silicon baking mats.

In a food processor or blender, grind the oats to a very fine powder. (If using a blender, stop the motor and stir the oats several times.) In a large bowl, thoroughly stir together the oats, flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside. In another large bowl, with an electric mixer on medium speed, beat the butter until light and fluffy. Add the brown sugar, sugar, and corn syrup and beat until well blended and fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla and beat until evenly incorporated. Beat in about half of the flour mixture. Beat or stir in the chocolate morsels, chopped milk chocolate, walnuts or pecans (if using), and remaining flour mixture until evenly incorporated. Let stand for 5 to 10 minutes, or until the dough firms up just slightly.

Divide the dough into quarters. Divide each quarter into 5 or 6 equal portions. Shape them into balls with lightly greased hands. Place on the baking sheets, spacing about 3 inches apart. Using your hands, pat down the balls to 1 inch thick.

Bake the cookies, one sheet at time, in the upper third of the oven for 9 to 12 minutes, or until tinged with brown and just beginning to firm up in the centers; for very moist cookies, be careful not to overbake. Reverse the sheet front to back halfway through baking to ensure even browning. Transfer the sheet to a wire rack and let stand until the cookies firm up slightly, 3 to 4 minutes. Using a spatula, transfer the cookies to wire racks. Let stand until completely cooled.

Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 1 month.

Note: Sometimes I leave out the milk chocolate and add more dark chocolate instead. And when I make these cookies, I refrigerate the dough overnight and then shape rounded teaspoonfuls into balls. This makes smaller, more compact cookies, which I prefer. For thinner, slightly crisper cookies, follow the directions above.

An urban myth is a modern folk tale, its origins unknown, its believability enhanced
simply by the frequency with which it is repeated. Our signature chocolate chip cookie
is the subject of one such myth. If you haven't heard the story, we won't perpetuate it
here. If you have, the recipe below should serve to refute it. Copy it, print it out, pass it along to friends and family. It's a terrific recipe. And it's absolutely free.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1-3/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons instant espresso coffee powder
  • 1-1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Cream the butter with the sugars using an electric mixer on medium speed until fluffy (approximately 30 seconds)

    2. Beat in the egg and the vanilla extract for another 30 seconds.

    3. In a mixing bowl, sift together the dry ingredients and beat into the butter mixture at low speed for about 15 seconds. Stir in the espresso coffee powder and chocolate chips.

    4. Using a 1 ounce scoop or a 2 tablespoon measure, drop cookie dough onto a greased cookie sheet about 3 inches apart. Gently press down on the dough with the back of a spoon to spread out into a 2 inch circle. Bake for about 20 minutes or until nicely browned around the edges. Bake a little longer for a crispier cookie.

    Yield: 2 dozen cookies

    Country Breakfast Omelet

8:04 AM Posted In Edit This 0 Comments »
Fabulous country omelet with bacon, potatoes, and chopped chives. It's such a satisfying breakfast or lunch. If you want to serve four people, double the recipe and make it in two pans.

    1 tablespoon good olive oil
3 slices thick-cut bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 cup (1-inch-diced) unpeeled Yukon Gold potatoes
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
    5 extra large eggs
    3 tablespoons milk
    1 tablespoon unsalted butter
    1 tablespoon fresh chopped chives

Heat the olive oil in a 10-inch ovenproof omelet pan over medium heat. Add the bacon and cook for 3 to 5 minutes over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the bacon is browned but not crisp. Take the bacon out of the pan with a slotted spoon and set aside on a plate.

Place the potatoes in the pan and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Continue to cook over medium-low heat for 8 to 10 minutes, until very tender and browned, tossing occasionally to brown evenly. Remove with a slotted spoon to the same plate with the bacon.

Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, beat the eggs, milk, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper together with a fork. After the potatoes are removed, pour the fat out of the pan and discard. Add the butter, lower the heat to low, and pour the eggs into the hot pan. Sprinkle the bacon, potatoes, and chives evenly over the top and place the pan in the oven for about 8 minutes, just until the eggs are set. Slide onto a plate, divide in half, and serve hot.
